creepyfries ☄ First Impressions ♚ VISUAL: Marlin is tall (roughly around 6'2"), lean, and brown skinned with naturally blonde hair, which is kept long and usually tied up into a messy bun. He has a long, narrow face with a long nose, pierced ears, and has a scar across his left cheek, just below the cheekbone. Age and stress mean his hair is starting to thin at the temples, and he's getting lines at the corners of his eyes, but otherwise he still looks smooth-faced and youthful. ♚ FASHION: In a word, casual. Marine hybrids tend to care little for appearances, so even when running the restaurant back home, Marlin's choice in clothing is comfortable and laidback (though of course, nothing that would violate food safety rules if he's going to be handling things in the kitchen). Since he usually lives by the sea, in the summer months he tends to favour short sleeves, long shorts, flip flops or sandals, though he covers up more when he's cooking. When the weather is colder, loose pants and oversized sweaters. His wardrobe also contains many styles native to his home country — long handwoven coats in earthy colours and patterns, long shawls/cloaks, and long high quality knitted pieces. ♚ DEMEANOUR: Composed and calm. Marlin's acutely aware of how a person's way of presenting themselves can affect on the mood of the people around them. He takes care to stand up tall without being rigid, smiles easily and keeps his body language open, keeping an approachable, informal air about himself. He's good at keeping his composure and hiding his frequent stress and worry, but if you catch him with his guard lowered (ie. away from customers), he has a few noticeable tells when he's feeling more worked up than he would like to show. He looks down more, or can be caught holding his elbows or twisting his wedding band around his ring finger. ♚ AURAL: As he's lived in a number of different places and speaks many languages (though not all of them fluently), Marlin's accent is an odd and ever changing mix of different intonations and pronunciations. The way he speaks is subconsciously affected by his mood or the subject that's being spoken about, as if he would happily slip into another language if only the other person would understand it. He has been known to absently speak in different tongues when performing tasks such as counting or dictating lists to himself. ♚ OLFACTORY: Plain soap, sea air, and kitchen spices. Also...maybe a little bit like mildew. Just a tad. The Ayling house is old and vulnerable to the cold and damp during winter months, and try as he might to keep the mold out, it's difficult when you live with two octopus women who don't like the air too dry or the temperature too warm. He mostly just smells clean, though. ♚ MENTAL INFORMATION: Mindreaders may be able to sense that Marlin's thoughts are a lot quicker and more agitated than his calm appearance may allude to. But besides being a bit worrisome (if you had family like his, you'd worry too), he's a stable and well-adjusted person with good mental health. He also thinks in many different languages unique to his world, though the most frequent is his native language. ♚ MAGICAL INFORMATION: No magic to be found here! Marlin's your normal human. ☄ OOC ♚ BACKTAGGING: Totally fine! I tend to be on the slower side, anyway. ♚ FOURTHWALLING: Forth-walling in the manner of characters recognising the fact that they're in an RP (similarly to how the cast of Gintama remark on being in a manga, or Zacharie from OFF speaks directly to the player) is fine, but expect Marlin to be confused and not know what your character is talking about. ♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Marlin isn't opposed to a friendly handshake or even a hug, depending on how well he knows the other person. He's a peaceful person who doesn't mind too terribly if his personal space gets invaded (though he may keep his guard up if he doesn't know you well enough to trust you...he's travelled through enough dodgy places to be aware of pick-pocketers). He will get uncomfortable very quickly if contact begins turning romantic or sexual — he has a wife back home, you know-! If that happens, Marlin will tactfully hint that the other character should back down, or overtly tell them to stop, depending on the nature of the approach. ♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: If it could result in anything more serious than bruising or superficial cuts, contact me for permission and/or to coordinate! Marlin is a nonviolent person and prefers to avoid physical conflict, but if he or somebody else is being endangered then he will resort to fighting back if necessary (though he would prefer to disarm or defend rather than inflict damage). His strength is about average for a grown man of his stature. ♚ RELATIONSHIPS: Marlin is happily married to his wife, Marla. She's his best friend, the love of his life, and the mother of his child, and Marlin cares deeply about her. He'd never risk hurting her, and the fact they have a daughter between them just makes it all the more important to him that he respect their marriage (for Maya's sake as well as Marla's). Getting romantic or sexual with anybody else is entirely out of the question...though I'm open to other characters having a one-sided interest in him and seeing what effect it may have on their CR! |
